The USH 151 corridor was experiencing safety issues and the CTH V intersection had an extraordinarily high crash rate. Recommended improvements included replacing the existing at-grade intersection with a partial cloverleaf interchange.
CTH V was re-aligned about 400’ east of the existing USH 151 crossing for the new interchange. Three single-lane roundabouts were constructed: two at the ramp terminals and one at the CTH V intersection with Park Avenue, which is the new Frontage Road. About 0.7 miles of CTH V was reconstructed, along with 3,600 feet of new frontage road connecting CTH V to USH 45. About one mile of Prairie Trail was reconstructed as part of the project. Extensive soils investigation and analysis performed on the project depicted the potential of over 6-inches in settlement in the large fills. Approximately 1.75 million linear feet of wick drains were installed to accelerate the settlement. Street lighting and Community Sensitive Design amenities were also included.
