OMNNI conducted a feasibility study to evaluate the various methods of incorporating crumb rubber into asphalt mix. The study included anticipating the effects of a crumb rubber modifier on mix properties, investigating crumb rubber and asphalt mix production and construction considerations, and estimating the net cost of using the County’s scrap tires in asphalt paving mixes. Costs and recommendations were provided.
The county is testing the application in a one-mile segment of College Avenue (CTH CA) from Casaloma Drive to Appleton International Airport. OMNNI provided mix designs, quality control testing and pavement density testing prior to and during construction.
