CTH GV Roundabouts

Brown County, Wisconsin

OMNNI provided design for the reconstruction of one mile of a two-lane rural roadway into a four-lane urban section with a raised median and shared use trail along the west side. This segment of roadway had many challenges including; designing a storm sewer system to work in a location with very little existing elevation change, minimizing wetland impacts, accommodating two navigable stream crossings and an accelerated project schedule. The unique hydraulic modeling of the two navigable stream crossings required a significant amount of coordination between multiple agencies to correct the existing models and design new crossings that meet current standards.

The intersections of CTH GV with CTH X and Ledgeview Road were reconstructed as multi-lane roundabouts. Both roundabouts are designed for trucks to stay in their own lane on approaches.

The CTH X intresized-IMG_8530ersection was a T-intersection. A four-legged multi-lane roundabout was designed to accommodate the future extension of CTH GV to the south, although only three legs are built at this time.

The existing Ledgeview Road intersection was a two-way stopped controlled intersection with a navigable stream crossing CTH GV diagonally under the intersection. The location of the navigable stream added to the complexity of the design of the Ledgeview Road roundabout. This roundabout has 2-lane entries on CTH GV and single lane entries on Ledgeview Road.
